Modern Bungee Jumping 31
Jul
Posted by Y & eX in Uncategorized on 07 31st, 2010

Modern bungee jumping started with a jump from a suspension bridge in Bristol, England, on April 1, 1979. Obviously, it was no April fool’s joke. From a height of 250 ft., four friends from the ‘Dangerous Sports Club’ leapt into the history books by taking the historic plunge. They were promptly arrested by the authorities shortly after completion of their activities. However, this failed to dampen their spirits much. They moved their jumping activities to the United States, where the jumped from the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, California. They also managed to secure sponsorship from the American television show ‘That’s Incredible’ for their jump from the Royal Gorge bridge in Colorado. Their perseverance helped bring modern bungee jumping to the spotlight of the media, and the masses.

Bungee jumping takes place around the world today, from Australia to the United States, to many countries in Europe. It is well respected as a dangerous and extreme sport. Despite it’s obvious dangerous aspect, millions of people have successfully completed jumps since the onset of modern bungee jumping. Indeed, tens of thousands of bungee jumpers take the plunge each year, in an ever-increasing variety of ways and places.

Many commercial endeavors have sprung up because of the rise in popularity of bungee jumping in the modern sports world. One of the most notable and respected outfits is the A. J. Hackett Bungee Company in New Zealand. A. J. Hackett founded the company in the late 1980s, after popularizing the sport with his own jumps. Indeed, he contributed to the modern bungee jumping by developing a new type of bungee cord. He personally demonstrated his new super elastic bungee cord when he jumped from the Eiffel Tower in 1987. His company has done a great service to the sport by helping to develop modern means and methods that provide a safer form of bungee jumping.

Modern bungee jumping has even crept into some aspects of mainstream western culture. For example, there have been a few major movies that have featured a bungee jump in their plot. One of the most well-known of these movies would be the James Bond spy-thriller, ‘GoldenEye’, from 1995. In this particular film, Bond is shown performing a bungee jump from what is supposed to be a dam in Russia. While the jump was actually performed, and was not computer or artist generated animation, the actual location of the jump was incorrect. The filming actually took place at the Versazca Dam in Switzerland.

Modern bungee jumping has even become a sport that in which the participants are striving to outdo one another. The Guinness Book of World Records has become involved, and has recorded what they have officially deemed as the ‘highest commercial bungee jump’. This jump takes place from the Bloukrans River bridge in South Africa. At over 700 feet above the floor of the valley, it is an astounding feat indeed. While other jumps have taken place from higher locations, this particular locale is considered the highest because it is purely a bungee jump. There are no additional cords or secondary safety cables … just the good ol’ bungee cord. Like it or not, it looks like modern bungee jumping is here to stay.

Summer Activities for Kids 30
Jul
Posted by Y & eX in Uncategorized on 07 30th, 2010

Often parents are left wondering how to make their kids busy in summer time. Some kids end up spending boring summers and some kids take full advantage of it mainly due to their parents smart planning. There are plenty of choices available to make your kid’s summer full of fun and excitement and a memorable one.

One of the best ways to make the summer fun filled is to buy swing and slide for your kids. But make sure you buy a range that allows you to add different accessories to the frame to serve the needs of growing children. One can add spice by having a choice of wing seats, and then add a slide, a goal net. One can also go for tarpaulin shelf which makes a perfect roof for a kid’s den. The choice is up to the parents as to how kids would like to swing, single or in groups.

Another good summer pastime is to let kids enjoy some domestic activities like making cookies of their names. They can also make numeric cookies like their age to invoke interest in them. The advantage of this is, the kids have both fun and they also learn at the same time. The enamel tin that stores these cutters can be found at any cooking shop.

One of the better ideas for summer is the paddling pool. The pools are big enough to hold several children. The pool comes with ground sheet, filter and cover. One can also purchase a ladder to help kids who are too small to climb.

Another marvelous idea is kite flying. Buy your kids a kite making kit. This not only keeps the kids busy and happy but it also increases their creativity. Kids love flying kids. So once the weather is ideal for flying kids, take your kids out for flying kites.

Nobody can beat swimming when it comes to summer sports. It’s the best way to beat the heat in summer along with unlimited fun it offers. It is also a good form of exercise which tones up the body muscles. For those kids who don’t know swimming, summers are best time to learn it when many schools and camps offer swimming classes. If your kids know swimming, you can enroll them in swimming competitions held by community and schools. Apart from that sending your kids for regular swimming practice in summer also helps them fine tune their swimming skills.

Another idea is to install giant snakes and ladders in your lawn. The players can themselves act as the counter and move up ladders and down snakes. The game would need at least two layers. The game is a lot of fun for kids of any age as they will enjoy running around.

Kids can also be enrolled in basketball camps. Some prestigious schools also invite state level coaches and Olympic players as special guests to train kids. This is the best time to learn basketball from a professional perspective.

Tennis is another summer time sport which can keep kids busy in summer. The game is packed with excitement, requires and builds a lot of stamina. Many popular international players started playing tennis since they were kids and earned a name for them in the sport. The kids learn things easily, so this is the right age to tap their talent and make a future out of the summer sports.

Should You Start Your Own Collectors Car Club? 29
Jul
Posted by Y & eX in Uncategorized on 07 29th, 2010

If you are someone who loves cars yet discovers that you are in an area where there is not currently any car clubs you may be lacking greatly in terms of options available to you. This often occurs in very small cities and is not always solvable. One of the simplest solutions is often the most complex and that is creating your own car club. However, should you really drive down this path? On the other hand, is it much better to continue seeking out a club that already exists?

If you are considering creating your own car club, you need to ensure that you have very good organizational skills. You are going to need to be the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and general all around go to person until you build up membership enough to justify the other positions. It is very important to realize that creating a car club is not simply about putting together a website and walking away. Someone is going to be responsible for planning all of the membership requirements, maintaining the list of members and organizing all of the benefits and activities that the club offers.

If your lifestyle finds you with barely the time you need to plan out a weekly meal menu for your family, you are probably going to find yourself too busy to organize a new car club as well. In the beginning, it is going to take quite a bit of time to organize and create. If you happen to have some friends that you know who can be of help in getting the initial organization done then you have a huge advantage that many people do not have.

If you look around and discover that there are numerous other car clubs already in your area, you are going to have a few options available to you. Either join one of those clubs, or try to decide exactly what can be different about your club that will encourage people to join, rather than going to the other clubs. You need something that will help set you apart and establish the individual personality of your club and give people a reason to pay attention to you, rather than ignore everything you do and say.

You also need to take the time to prepare a good website. So many people are determined to investigate everything on the web. If you are wanting to create a club do you have the skills to create your website? Do you know someone who can do it for you? If you have to hire someone to build your website you may be surprised at how expensive it is, yet it is a wonderful way to communicate with members, and allow perspective members to see exactly what you are about.

One of the benefits that many clubs offer is a newsletter each month for members. If you decided to offer this, would you have the time to do it? How could you reasonably cheaply organize the newsletter? You do not need to embark on any activities that are very expensive to maintain or you will be forced to charge very high membership fees that will have people really questioning your membership.

All of these things are just the tip of the iceberg when it is time to decide whether you should create your own car club. There are always options for those who simply do not have the time or the skills. You could either look into hiring someone to handle the administrative tasks for you, or you could look around until you find a club that suits your needs. Regardless of which option you choose, you are certain to find the best solution in due time. There is no reason to stress out or rush into the process so take the time to carefully consider all of your options and ensure that you are satisfied with your decision before you embark on your journey.

Collectors Car Clubs of the Past 28
Jul
Posted by Y & eX in Uncategorized on 07 28th, 2010

Wondering about some of the changes that have occurred with car clubs in the last few years? There are numerous, after all as lives go on and technology improves people change as well. What was once fulfilling and satisfying barely meets anyone’s needs now and the car clubs have all been forced to adapt and adjust as well. This means that the clubs that in the past were the top of the line have also had to adjust in order to meet the needs of members.

Those clubs that did not evolve have all subsided and closed, while new clubs appeared. In the past, many people felt that a car club was only useful for an occasional organized drive and of course participating in only local car shows with. This would generally be a monthly activity that took place for a few hours and usually just involved the members of the club. Today’s clubs still take drives, however they tend to occur on a weekly basis now, and are completely voluntary. Additionally the drives are usually very short, or else cover the course of an entire weekend and members are encouraged to bring their entire family along for the adventure.

Additional changes that have occurred include membership fees and acceptance. In the past, most clubs accepted almost everyone who applied and there were few if any that charged membership. Now there are very few that accept everyone who applies and the majority charge at least a small membership fee to help defer some of the costs that the club has. From organizing events to even making some charitable donations many car clubs have a few bills that must be covered somehow. In the past, the clubs were not very well organized. People would simply meet together, possibly wear a jacket that was identical to other members and have a small sticker that they placed on their car. Times have changed and membership often means so much more now.

Car clubs of the past typically involved only men. Women were almost never around cars, after all in the old days the woman’s place was in the kitchen cooking or taking care of children, never out in the garage with the men. Today’s car clubs have women who are members and car enthusiasts themselves. The numbers of women who are members have grown dramatically in recent years and continues to grow even more. There are even some clubs that limit membership to only women to help encourage and foster the love that women have for cars.

People also tend to demand more now than they ever did from memberships and clubs and to help adapt many have worked out deals with businesses and services that are useful to the car owner, which allows members to receive a discount. This is something that car clubs in the past never worried about, yet most clubs offer some form of benefit. The benefits that each club offers varies greatly, and even the amount of the discounts that each club has available varies from club to club depending on the deal worked out but you can usually find something that is beneficial to you.

You can only imagine how car clubs of today will compare to those of tomorrow. At this point in time collector’s car clubs have changed so dramatically that they are so vastly different and likely more changes are in store as the clubs continue to adapt to life. People always love cars, after all the power and thrill of creating a car from the ground up or even restoring an old and tarnished car into the masterpiece that car enthusiast’s love is always thrilling and likely will not disappear anytime in the future. In addition, working on cars is a great way for families to bond and it creates the need for people to get together and learn, show off their cars and admire the work of others. Car clubs have thus far stood the test of time and will continue to do so in the future.

Make Your Own Solar Power Source 27
Jul
Posted by Y & eX in Uncategorized on 07 27th, 2010

Solar power can be found in several different places on the earth. You can find solar power in a parked car, in a building with no air circulating, in a home without windows opened or fans circulating the air. When you step into any of these places that have been in the sunlight for a while you soon become overpowered by the amount and the intensity of the heat. This kind of heat can be taken and converted into heat that can heat your home, your water, an outbuilding, or any other building you would like to have heat in.

Heating by solar power is a free way of heating. When you heat using solar power you use a source that will direct the heat from the sunlight during the daytime to your solar source. A solar source is a device that you use to attract and trap the heat from the sun. Just like a car out in the parking lot gets hot when it faces the midday sun and the windows are rolled up. The seats can become very hot, too hot to sit on. These seats are a solar source because they trapped the heat inside and didn’t want to let them go. When this happens the seats will still be warm long after the sun quits shining directly on that car.

Creating a solar source can be easy to do with a little thought put into it. With a solar source you need to think about all the things that attract the sun, such as metal, the color black, glass that is tinted or clear, mirrors and more. There is an endless supply of idea to signal the heat your way and trap it for your use. To get the heat to benefit your water system or even your heat, you need to come up with a way that you can circulate a liquid that when it passes by your solar source it will heat the water naturally because of the concentrated amount of heat that was trapped inside your solar source that day.

When the liquid carries through the solar source and travels into the home it can go directly to the water source where it can be kept warm, like a hot water tank, but naturally without using gas and electricity to keep it warm. This solar source can be a great challenge to create but you will enjoy the rewards for years to come. You can also find solar sources in stores as well as online. Shopping for solar power items has never been easier and it is not expensive.

Coming up with a solution that will carry the heat into the home is simple and practical. If your idea is successful you will have heat during the winter and warm water all year around. The main goal is not only to preserve the natural resources and the environment but it is cost effective when you can use something that is natural that you need to use.

Passive Solar Power 25
Jul
Posted by Y & eX in Uncategorized on 07 25th, 2010

It is a well known fact that the sun is the strongest from the south. People who want to conserve solar power uses this theory in order to get the most sun into their houses with minimal expense. If you are building a home that you want to be solar power, it is best to put the most windows facing the south side. Although it is not always true, depending on where you live, it is a general rule to go by. Passive technology turns sunlight into heat that can be used for several things, including ventilation and cooling. You can heat homes and businesses with passive solar. Passive solar systems depend on gravity fed and natural resources in order to make passive solar work. If it uses a pump or fan to force the liquid through, than it is an active solar.

Passive solar technology offers direct and indirect gain for heating spaces, water heating systems, use of thermal mass and also phase change materials which helps to regulate the temperature indoors. There is also the solar cooking equipment, the solar chimney which allows for ventilation and earth sheltering. Passive solar can also be found in a solar furnace and solar forge, although these are a little more complicated. Sun rooms are another example of passive solar power as it lets the sun come into the room without allowing it to escape. There is no mechanism or no engine to power just the clear panes of glass attracting the sun and trapping it within.

Solar gain is referring to the increase in temperature in an area, an object or a structure that is a result of solar radiation. The stronger the sun the more solar gain you have. A solar furnace is any huge object that is created in order to channel the heat directly to one place. The heat can be unbearable but it does produce a lot of electricity from it. Temperatures can reach up to 3,000 degrees. When you compare the expenses associated with passive solar you realize that the cost of passive solar is minimal when you compare it to active wear.

Because there is no mechanism to power it makes it more affordable. With active solar you must have a device that can power the heat that you take in and used it. Passive solar is the most popular with those who are experimenting with the conception of solar power and may find that they like it enough to stick to it. When you are ready for an upgrade it is easy to move up to active power. Adding a mechanism that will easily and conveniently pump the water on through the source is an effective way of combining today’s technology with conservation and preservation that we have access to.

Passive solar power is something that we will be seeing a lot of in the future as the need for solar power becomes more in demand. There will come a time when even those who depend on active solar may have to switch to passive solar.

A Hockey Great – Wayne Gretzky 23
Jul
Posted by Y & eX in Uncategorized on 07 23rd, 2010

Wayne Gretzky was acknowledged as one of the all time great hockey players by nearly everyone when he broke several of Gordie Howe’s records. He became the all time leading scorer with his 802nd goal, and also the all time point-getter when he got his 1852nd point.

Wayne was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, and his father built a backyard ice rink when Wayne was six years old. He practiced daily for hours, with his dad teaching him the skills of skating, shooting, and stickhandling. Even at the age of six, Wayne was playing on a team of ten year olds, far beyond the normal skill range of a six year old. One year he got 378 goals on a peewee team, and earned the nickname “The White Tornado” because of his talents and his white gloves.

Wayne moved to Toronto at the age of fourteen to have more opportunities in hockey, and at 16 played in the World Junior Championship. He was thought too small and slight to even make the Canadian team, but once there, he was named top center and was the leader in scoring for the entire competition. Wayne knew that he wanted to play professional hockey, but at 17 was too young for the minimum NHL draft age of 20, so he signed a contract with the Indianapolis Racers. That hockey team had financial troubles, and so Gretzky was moved to the Edmonton Oilers, where he became universally noticed. In his first year at Edmonton he attracted a lot of notice, but only won one hockey trophy that year, the Hart Trophy.

The next year, 1980, began Wayne’s march to claim many of the hockey statistics as his own. He won his first scoring title, and made a new assists record of 109, to surpass Bobby Orr. The following year, he went past Phil Esposito’s record of 76 goals in one season, which many people had thought would stand forever. Gretzky scored 92 goals in one season, which many people now view as simply impossible to break. He also registered 212 points in a season, and he is the only player to ever have done that. He is the only hockey player to break 200 points in a season, and he repeated that feat for four seasons.

Gretzky had a few signature moves. He was known for not using a man skating ahead of him, but instead using the trailing man on rushes. When the team had a penalty, Gretzky did not ice the puck in a defensive role, but rather tried to surprise the other team by scoring shorthanded. He would also skate past the blue line and then curl, where he would wait for a defensemen to join him and create a real scoring chance. “Gretzky’s office” was the area behind the other team’s goal, because he made so many perfect passes for scoring opportunities from there.

After playing with several teams, Wayne Gretzky ended his professional hockey career with the New York Rangers in the 1998-1999 season. The National Hockey League retired his number 99, a fitting tribute to a remarkable player.

Vintage Car Insurance Online, the Easy and Most Convenient Way 22
Jul
Posted by Y & eX in Uncategorized on 07 22nd, 2010

Restoring a vintage car is a labor of love. While admittedly there are some that do this as a business, all of them, those that restore and collect vintage cars, are driven by their passion, they are fueled by their desire for vintage cars and watching them return to their full glory is what makes them happy.

Ownership of a vintage car sets an image of glamour, prestige and a status symbol that shows you can afford its high maintenance, think Jay Leno. Aside from having the money to pursue such an endeavor, you should also have the passion for it. You need to be very patient when restoring a vintage car.

After restoring a vintage car, a lot of people would either drive out from time to time, or keep it in storage so that they will be in great condition when they present it at car shows. This great concern for safety is understandable; this is because a vintage car restoration project is no laughing matter. A huge investment in time, money and effort is done and watching a car get destroyed or to have it stolen can be a huge blow.

This is where having an insurance comes in. But unlike regular car insurance, vintage car insurance can be different. One thing that collector’s like is that a vintage car insurance is relatively far cheaper than regular car insurance. You have to consider though that this insurance policy is cheaper because they only cover certain mileage. There are also conditions like parking garages that are considered.

Also, the price of a vintage car insurance policy will depend on the make and model of the vehicle, the rarer the car is and the more expensive it is in the market, the higher the cost of the policy is. Furthermore, make sure that your insurer will guarantee the valuation of your car prior to signing the policy. There have been some insurance companies who have denied claims for complete valuation. Although having a guaranteed valuation included in your policy will mean extra charges, this is all worthwhile as you are protected in the event that your car is stolen or is damaged beyond total repair.

Looking for vintage car insurance can be as simple as flipping through the yellow pages or browsing through vintage car magazines. There you will be able to find car insurance companies that can be able to give you a quote after you give out your details through a phone call, or if you go to their physical office. Comparing their quotes can be a troublesome task. You need to make several phone calls or visits to get their quote. Plus, interacting with an insurance agent can get you committed to their policy with their persuasion.

One of the more popular ways in finding vintage car insurance is browsing the internet. Here you will be able to find numerous insurance companies that can offer great deals in insurance policies. Plus, you don’t have to go to their physical offices to get a quote. In a matter of minutes, you will be able to get quotes from different companies and compare them. Aside from their prices though, you have to greatly consider what is included in the policy. One great thing about shopping for a policy through the net, you are not pressured to be committed to their service.
